This week Sheena and I had the unique opportunity to participate in a ministry to a small town outside of the city of Queretaro. The deacon in my church's son and daughter in law are planting churches in Queretaro and are part of a ministry team to reach this area. They asked us to come along to participate (SHeena) and to help translate (me) with a group of 14 people from a Baptist church in Portland, Oregon. We have been working all week to reach the community of San Ildefonso, Queretaro, by doing a large evangelistic campaign. It has been a truly awesome experience for all of us here, as we are working with people and missionaries from the US, Mexico, Peru, and Argentina! It has been a huge blessing for me and a way to see that God is totally capable of breaking down extreme catholic strongholds (Queretaro is a very large Catholic center in Mexico).
Yesterday night we were performing a live drama in the center of the town when many who were not pleased with our being there paraded by with a candle-lit statue of the Virgin of Guadalupe (Mexican's patron of the virgin Mary), chanting and trying to get more people to walk with them. To me it was a visual reminder ofthe very real spiritual warfare all across this country. Please pray!
I have been impacted by this week's trip. It wasn't really planned but when the opportunity came up, I thought it would be a perfect way for Sheena to see a different type of ministry, and a different area of Mexico. God has also used it to renew a lot of my own vision in ministry and reignite that inner passion that He first gives us when He calls us to a people, land, or ministry.
Thank you God!
Bethany
